This thematically rich mural by Anderson Augusto and Elda Broilo portrays the struggle for land undertaken by the Landless as a continuity of resistance against colonial oppression as well as the evolution of the Catholic Church toward an active solidarity with the poor and oppressed. There is a linear presentation of the progress of history, from left to right, with the figure of Jesus presiding, pointing the way forward, his message and example transcending time, "Yesterday, Today, and Forever." References to a pre-Columbian, Mesoamerican pyramid, the Mexican Virgin of Guadalupe, and the Medellín and Puebla Conferences of Latin American Bishops stress the pan-Latin American context of the emergence of Liberation Theology and the struggle of the Landless.
